A root canal treatment can make the difference between saving or losing a tooth by removing bacteria and preventing reinfection. During a root canal procedure, your dentist will remove the infected tooth pulp before cleaning your tooth canal, filling it and sealing it. Our experienced team is committed to gentle and affordable root canals.
What Is A Root Canal?
A root canal treatment is performed when a tooth has become diseased or damaged and is in danger of being lost. A diseased or damaged tooth can be very painful and is a source of infection that can spread to other teeth and soft tissue if it is not treated.
Some signs you might need a root canal include
- Sensitivity to hot and cold after the stimulus has been removed
- Tender swollen or painful gums
- Pain or discomfort when biting or chewing
- Cracks or chips in your teeth
- Darkening of your gums or deep decay
What Can You Expect From Root Canal Treatment?
There is nothing to worry about if you need a root canal treatment. In fact, many patients find it similar to a filling, and it can usually be completed in two to three visits. It is performed under anaesthetic so you should not feel any pain but you can expect to feel some degree of discomfort in the days after your procedure.
Your dentist will remove the infected tooth pulp and clean the inside of your tooth. It is then disinfected, filled up and sealed so that bacteria cannot re-enter. Afterwards, your tooth will be covered with a crown. After you have healed, you should be able to bite and chew with the same force as your other teeth.
